Women's History Month
Hi Beauties, In the month of March (Women's History Month), all cameras are on women who have paved the way for women like ourselves. Who, other than the sexy bombshell Pam Grier should be in the camera's view? Well, here is a history lesson that you may not have known. Pamela Suzetta Grier was born in May 6, 1949 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Grier was raised in a conservative two parent home. "Her mother was a nurse and her father was a mechanic in the United States Air Forces." The Grier's moved around due to her father's job which is how they landed in Denver, Colorado. As a child, Grier dreamed about becoming a doctor whereas acting never crossed her mind. It wasn't until 1967, when Grier entered a state beauty pageant in Colorado and won third place when her acting career started. She was discovered by Dave Baumgarten an agent while doing beauty pageant at a hotel in Colorado, Springs. Baumgarten encouraged Grier to go to Hollywood to explore acting. Since, she had dreams of becoming a doctor she declined going to Hollywood. Grier's mother was the one who told her to go for it. Her mother knew that she was a star and her child could always go back to school at any given time. There is nothing like motherly advice because after Grier talked to her mother she moved to Los Angeles. This is where Pam studied acting all while working for "American International Pictures as a Switch Board Operator to make ends meet." We have to start somewhere. Right? In 1971, at the young tender age of 22, Grier landed her first acting gig as a sexy inmate in a sexy inmate in the film named "Big Doll House." Grier also starred in "Hit Man (1972), Black Mama, White Mama (1975), Coffy (1973), Sheba Baby (1975), and of course Jackie Brown (1997)." Jackie Brown was one of Grier's famous films hence the name "Foxy Brown." "These films were specifically geared toward the African-American community which was heavily focused on black stereotypes." The scenes were typically what is known as "hood" movies. Hood movies have been around forever and they are set in ghettos, consist of drug dealers, pimps, and gangsters. Somethings never change. Although, Pam Grier roles were super risky
